Large sections of the USA population do NOT have access to high speed internet
connection.
There are large sections of the USA population that still today (September
2005) do not have access to high speed internet connection. More and more websites
are now being designed with features that take a long tome to "download".
Customers in rural areas are becoming increasingly frustrated using the internet
because of this reason. Websites are becoming too "sophisticated" to
be "delivered over regular dial up connections. As an example of how unavailable
high-speed connection is, we can mention the small towns Rhome and Newark in
North Texas only 45 minutes away from one of the largest Metropolitan Area
in the USA (Dallas/ Forth Worth) the home of one of the largest airports in
the USA (The D.F.W. International Airport.) In these two small towns, DSL became
only available in May of 2005. So one can only imagine how bad the situation
may still be in "rural" areas. Cable and DSL are simply not available. When
websites are being designed with larger images and more of them on each page,
together with other features that require high bandwidth, these websites simply
become "unusable" to dial up customers.
We urge other webmaster also
to keep their websites simple and usable. The fact that your webmaster can
install fancy high quality flash intro or similar
content that take forever to load over phone lines but does not make you
website any more useful, in best case in may only impress other webmasters.
